RFID Labels
For smarter identification and traceability
RFID stands for “radio frequency identification”, a technology that uses digital data encoded in an RFID tag. RFID tags come in different shapes and sizes. Like barcodes, they carry information that can be captured by a reader and stored in a system. In an RFID label, the tag is usually integrated between the face material and the backing liner.
RFID labels allow you to identify, track and manage products and packaging without a direct line of sight between the label and the reader. Information can be captured automatically, and multiple items can be read at the same time – an efficient way to improve control, traceability and automation across your operations.
RFID is more than a label
An RFID label is a self-adhesive label with an integrated RFID tag. The tag consists of an antenna and a chip and carries a unique identity that can be read wirelessly by an RFID reader. This identity can then be linked to information in your business systems to support identification, traceability and inventory management.
A key advantage of RFID is that the label does not need to be visible to the reader. While a traditional barcode normally requires an optical scanner to be aimed at the code, RFID readers can identify multiple tagged items automatically and simultaneously. This makes RFID particularly useful when large numbers of products, packaging items or other assets need to be identified, counted or tracked quickly.
When are RFID labels used?
RFID is mainly used when businesses want to automate identification, reduce manual work or improve traceability across their operations. The technology can be used for products, components, packaging, pallets and other assets.
