KASK is a coffee liqueur from ONE NINE Spirits, developed in collaboration with bartender Emil Åreng. Each production run involves brewing approximately 800 litres of coffee, using a combination of cold-brewed and hot-brewed coffee.
Om kasken
Kask emerged in the late 19th century, during a time marked by restrictions on home distilling and widespread emigration to America. Mixing coffee with spirits became a way to ration and make the most of what was available. Both coffee and the tradition of kask crossed the Atlantic and have since been passed down through generations.
A traditional way of making kask was to pour coffee into a cup, drop in a coin and add spirits until the coin became visible. This made it easy to tell when the mixture had reached the desired strength.
The label deisgn
The label was designed by Hugo Sundkvist and draws inspiration from the history of kask. It features small figures emigrating and dropping kask coins along the way, referencing both the journey and the tradition.
The back label features a die-cut design that allows a coin to extend beyond the label’s surface. The same die-cut shape is used across other labels in the range, where it takes on different forms, including an orange.
In 2022, KASK was awarded gold at the World Coffee Liqueur Championships in London.
